Bury Metropolitan borough council abuses pensioners

Monday, August 11th, 2008 | Author: Chris Brown

Council orders pensioners to clean up graffiti or face £1,000 fines

So says an article in today’s ‘Telegraph‘ newspaper.   This really is local authority officialdom gone mad.  Let’s hope common sense prevails.  Or that some good Samaritans get together and deal with the problem gratis!  Britain’s pensioners should not be treated in this way!

Pensioners whose homes were vandalised with graffiti have been threatened with fines of up to £1,000 if they do not have it cleaned up.

Elderly residents were already upset after the vandals sprayed paint over the wooden fences separating their homes from a path running behind their back gardens.

But highways staff in Prestwich near Manchester sent them stern warning letters giving them 21 days to remove the graffiti or face court under local authority planning rules.

If convicted they could face a maximum fine of £1,000.

Opposition councillors have condemned the warning letters which locals said “scared the wits” out of the elderly residents and were usually only reserved for developers and large landowners.

Councillor Vic D’Albert, a local liberal democrat who is representing the group, said: “This is one of the most shocking instances I have seen as a councillor.

“An elderly woman who passed this letter onto me was extremely distressed in case she should be fined or somehow forced to clean the mess up herself at great cost to herself.

“She was virtually in tears - you can imagine the distress it causes a woman living on her own to get a letter saying you are not maintaining your property properly.

“It’s no way to treat people, especially our senior citizens. The council should put more effort into finding ways of supporting people who are victims rather that threatening to punish them further.

“Its all a big mess and no-one knows what is happening. The way the council has spoken to people and the way they have hit the victims, instead of the vandals, is not right.”

Councillor Wayne Campbell, Bury’s Labour leader, said: “It is a disgrace. There are plenty of council buildings covered in graffiti - perhaps they should start closer to home before targeting victims of crime.”

Conservative run Bury Metropolitan borough council sent out a number of letters which quoted a law that is used against major landowners who continually refuse to clean up their land.

At least three pensioners receiving the letters are aged over 70 and, in some cases, they are physically unable to remove the graffiti. The council which cited section 215 of the Town and Country Planning Act, also sent letters to a British Legion centre and a church.

One of the pensioners, who do not wish to be named, said: “They should clean up their own problems instead of having a go at us. Why don’t they clean their property such as lamp posts, instead of getting someone else to clean someone else’s crime up.

“It should be the vandals that should be cleaning it up, not the pensioners.”

Local politicians and residents association condemned the heavy-handedness of the council.

Carran O’Grady, the co-ordinator of Prestwich Area Partnership, which has special kits available to help clean graffiti said the council should work with residents rather than threaten them.

“That would be a better way to approach it rather than scaring the wits out of people,” she said.

A Bury Council spokesman apologised for the scare tactics but said the graffiti still had to be cleaned.

“If people want to have a better quality of life, they must take responsibility for their community,” he said.

Why every serious environmentalist should join the Resistance

Saturday, August 09th, 2008 | Author: News Team

Our very existence, as a free people within an independent sovereign nation, is under dire threat “ as is our environment “ a treasure house of precious fauna and flora.

For the first time in our history we face grave danger emanating from both within and without this realm. In Britain today there is only one organisation resisting the menace of the EU Fourth Reich at our front and the growing Fifth Column at our back.

On the Home Front we are faced by a tidal wave of fresh immigration “ another six million migrants over the next twenty years the demographics experts tell us! Stating the obvious “ Britain is one of the most overcrowded countries on the planet. Yet despite the ruinous effects upon society, community and the environment arising directly out of immigration fuelled overpopulation - the Government, the Establishment parties and the so-called “Greens” are determined that we should have even more!

Immigration fuelled overpopulation is the greatest controllable threat to our environment today. Yet “plastic environmentalists” “ such as those in the Green Party “ refuse to acknowledge the link between immigration, overpopulation and environmental destruction.

Such people are, in effect, collaborating with the EU puppet regime in Westminster and working against the very cause they claim to champion. To stand back, to look the other way, to ignore what is staring us in the face - is an act as breathtakingly stupid as it is cowardly. Commonsense demands that environmentalists should campaign against immigration “ not as an act of “racism” - but as a necessity to protect what remains of our environmental heritage.

Immigration = overpopulation = environmental ruin “ it really is as simple as that!

The time for sitting on the fence and grumbling about the state of our nation is over - it’s an indulgence we can no longer afford if we are to survive! We owe it to our forebears - men and women who gave their all in the defence of our island home - as well as to the generations of brethren English, Scots, Welsh and Irish yet to come.

It’s time to stand up and be counted and what other possible way than by joining the BNP - the British Resistance here .

News from the Melon Patch

Friday, August 08th, 2008 | Author: News Team

It never ceases to amaze us at Land & People why people vote for the Green Party. The only rational reason we can come up with is that they have no idea of what that outfit actually stands for beyond “they’re for the environment”! In other words, a great many amongst those inclined to vote for them, have no inkling as to their political philosophy, but view them as a useful receptacle for the registering of a protest vote.

The Green Party is, of course, the “environmentalist” party that apparently fails to see any connection between immigration and population growth “ whilst being happy to concede that overpopulation is the greatest threat to our environment.

In addition, whereas the Green Party claims to believe in animal welfare “ it has no policy on (or recognition of?) the abomination of ritual slaughter “ the most prolific form of animal abuse practised in Britain today!

The explanation for these “ambiguities” is simple. The Green Party, like every other leftwing group, is working for a multicultural Britain and consequently favours fewer restrictions on immigration. It is because of its addiction to multiculturalism that it is forced to adopt irrational “flat earth-like” stances “ stances that give rise to irreconcilable positions - such as immigration and overpopulation not being linked and ritual slaughter not constituting animal abuse! No wonder then that it is increasingly known as the “Melon Party” “ being green on the outside “ but red throughout!

The Melon Party’s official line on immigration - the phenomena which is exacerbating the overpopulation problem which, in tun, is increasingly wrecking our environment - is: “The Green Party works for a significant reduction in immigration control and the protection of the rights of migrant workers regardless of their ‘economic value’.”

As an aside, we wonder how many of the 1,300 people who voted Green during the recent Henley by-election would have done so had they previous knowledge of the following from the Green Party’s website here .

For those not in the know, LGBT stands for: Lesbian, Gay, By-sexual & Transgender.

We quote:

Greens launch Downing Street petition calling for instruction, training and guidance for all asylum staff

LGBT Greens has launched a petition on the Downing Street website calling for an urgent review of Home Office approaches to LGBT asylum seekers.

Phelim Mac Cafferty, spokesperson for LGBT Greens stated:

“After much campaigning on the issue since the cases of Iranian LGBT asylum seekers Pegah Emembakhsh and Mehdi Kazemi came to light, we have got clearance from the web team on the Prime Minister’s website for our petition.

“We now challenge the government to start treating LGBT asylum seekers with the fairness that they deserve. These are people who’ve often fled persecution, rape and torture who flee to our country and our response is to lock them up like criminals. We say enough is enough of this inhumane policy - we need to stick our necks out now and stand up for LGBT asylum seekers.”

The full text of the petition is:

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to urgently review the way LGBT asylum seekers are treated.

In the light of the cases of Pegah Emembakhsh and Mehdi Kazemi, Iranian LGBT asylum seekers, who sought asylum in the UK , we call upon the Prime Minister for an urgent review of the services provided for all LGBT asylum seekers.

In particular we think that the following are needed for fair treatment.

1. Compulsory training for all asylum staff on sexual-orientation and trans-awareness.
2. Explicit instructions to all immigration and asylum staff, and asylum judges, that homophobic and transphobic persecution are legitimate grounds for granting asylum.
3. Clearer and up-to-date guidance from the Home Office for asylum judges to reflect the accurate scale of LGBT persecution throughout the world using expert information from NGOs like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.
4. Legal-aid funding for asylum claims needs to be substantially increased.

Unquote:

Land & People ask: How can the promotion of either asylum or immigration possibly be in the best interests of the environment?

A glimpse of “Tarka Country”

Wednesday, August 06th, 2008 | Author: News Team

One of the best nature videos (in our opinion) on YouTube is that showing a year in the life of the River Torridge, sister to The Taw, in North Devon. This being set to one of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ compositions. The courses of the Torridge and Taw form much of North Devon’s “Tarka Trail” - well worth exploring - using the old market town of Barnstaple as your base. The trail is named after Henry Williamson’s creation - Tarka the Otter - which, as it happens, is just one of the creatures to be seen in the video.

Policy briefing 1

Sunday, August 03rd, 2008 | Author: News Team

There can be no doubt that few things are more essential to our everyday lives than food.

Unfortunately not enough people are asking themselves whether they can trust the food they eat. The politicians and food industry spokesmen tell us that the chemicals, growth hormones, additives and antibiotics the food industry insists on adulterating our food with is both “essential” and “good for us”! In addition, those who campaign for wholesome food and especially against GM products, are ridiculed as being “misinformed” or “backward looking”!

The British National Party believes the road ahead is for a return to unadulterated organic food, food we can trust. In particular we want a GM-free Britain and a return to proven organic production methods as far as is practically posible. During the last decade the quantity of organic food produced in Europe has gone up five fold, so clearly there is a demand for real food in this country of ours. Unfortunately the Government has done little to encourage British producers to expand organic production “ this despite our country having one of the largest markets for organic produce in the Western World. It is a sad fact that less than half of the organic food we eat is actually homegrown. The British National Party will promote real food over the processed and adulterated variety, and encourage food producers to meet the resulting growing demand for real food, at an affordable price to the consumer.

Furthermore, British Nationalists advocate proper and prominent labelling on food packaging. We believe the consumer has a right to know what they are being sold, so that they are better equipped to decide for themselves whether they want to buy it.

In addition, as part of our drive for a return to real food, British Nationalists advocate a major expansion in the provision of the traditional allotment “ this being a facility that has served both families and communities well for many decades.

British Nationalists also believe that the British public, by and large, care - as we do - about the treatment of animals. We believe that farm animals have a right not to suffer, and our stand against intensive factory production lines promotes respect and compassion in farming. Furthermore, British Nationalists, unlike the so-called “Green” Party, are opposed to the most prolific form of animal cruelty practised in Britain today “ that of the cruel and barbaric slow-death ritual slaughter of millions of our farm animals every year - for no other reason than to appease the theological dogma of certain religious groups.

The British National Party believes in local family owned shops selling the wholesome produce of local family owned farms and allotments, at affordable prices, to local people.

Hence our stance that as far as is possible food should be grown locally, for sale in local shops and markets, to local people. We see little value in chemically grown produce that has been transported thousands of polluting miles to reach the consumer - it’s time to rediscover real food and to refocus our farming industry into fulfilling that need.

Food Additives: Aspartame

Sunday, August 03rd, 2008 | Author: News Team

A few days ago respected environmental campaigner and organic grower, Robert Baehr, shared some of his views with us, on the use of additives in our food. Since then a number of readers have commented upon one such additive - a “sweetener” widely marketed under the name of Aspartame.

For the benefit of our readership, we draw your attention to an article that begins:

“Today we have “Nutra-Sweet”, which is widely used in a plethora of consumables, despite a demonstrated neurological reaction in some people. In February 1996, it was decided to also use the product name “Benevia”. It is estimated that as many as 20,000,000 people cannot metabolize phenylalimine, and this inability is genetically inherited by children. The inability to metabolize phenylalinine can lead to mental retardation in children. This means a risk of retardation for millions of children. A multi-billion dollar enterprise, this substance is said to be “refined” from “natural” substances. Like other “refined” substances, it represents a health threat to the general public. No long term studies have been performed to evaluate the physiological effects of this substance, yet the public is lead to believe it is absolutely safe. Technically, the chemical is called aspartame, and it was once on a Pentagon list of biowarfare chemicals submitted to Congress. [1] Aspartame is in over 4,000 products worldwide and is consumed by over 200 million people in the United States alone. What follows is a skeletal examination of the chronology related to aspartame. A more detailed chronology is given later in this chapter based on information provided to us by the Aspartame Consumer Safety Network.

Aspartame is produced by G.D. Searle Company, founded in 1888 and located in Skokie, Illinois. Searle is now owned by others. It is about 200 times sweeter than the refined sugar that it is meant to replace, and it is known to erode intelligence and affect short-term memory. It is essentially a chemical weapon designed to impact populations en masse. It is an rDNA derivative made from two amino acids, L-phenylalanine, L-aspartic acid and methanol. Originally discovered during a search for an ulcer drug in 1966, it was “approved” by the FDA in 1974 as a “food additive”.

Approval was followed by a retraction based on demonstrated public concern over the fact that the substance produced brain tumors in rats. According to the 1974 FDA task force set up to examine aspartame and G.D.Searle, “we have uncovered serious deficiencies in Searles operations and practices, which undermine the basis for reliance on Searle’s integrity in conducting high quality animal research to accurately determine the toxic potential of its products.” The task force report concluded with the recommendation that G.D. Searle should face a Grand Jury “to identify more particularly the nature of the violations, and to identify all those responsible.” [2]

The remainder of this article may be found here .

A further point of interest within the article is mention of the American bio-tech giant Monsanto “ a company that came to notoriety through its manufacturing of a “safe” dioxine herbicide know as “Agent Orange” “ used as a tree defoliant by the US military in Vietnam and subsequently responsible for genetic defects and cancer amongst hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese, pareticularly newborn babes. More recently Monsanto has been seen promoting its GM products in both Britain and Europe “ products it, of course, claims to be “safe”!

In researching a suitable image to accompany this story we have come across several too appalling to publish on a site catering for family viewing “ please take our word for it that the image above, alleged to show a five-year old victim of “Agent Orange”, is mild in comparison!

Resistance for environmental salvation

Food additives - a personal view

Thursday, July 31st, 2008 | Author: News Team

Robert Baehr, respected environmentalist campaigner and organic grower, provides a personal opinion on food additives and on those who profit from their inclusion in our foodstuffs.

If I could live my life again I would pay more attention in school. History and geography were the subjects that I enjoyed, but I doodled or daydreamed my way through the physics, maths and chemistry lessons. I was a little contemptuous of anyone interested in science, but now recognise that this attitude was born of arrogance and snobbery. It was only later in life that I realized just how fascinating these disciplines really are.

My early disdain for the physical sciences and imagined superiority to the students who showed interest or ability in the field had one beneficial side effect, however. Distrust of scientists was something that has always influenced my thinking. While most people unquestioningly accepted all discoveries and inventions as beneficial progress, I have often, if not usually, had my reservations.

As a result, as soon as I noticed that the food we were expected to feed to our children was full of chemicals I was troubled, to say the least. It was immediately obvious that our children were being poisoned by the chemicals that farmers were spreading on their fields and orchards, and by the colourants, flavourings and preservatives added subsequently by the processing industry.

That food should be natural and unadulterated seemed self-evident but nobody appeared to notice or to care. Everyone trusted the scientists and the regulators. Everyone trusted the government to protect us.

I was far from being a perfect parent, but at least I never fed my children the crap that was dished out to their peers. Despite our relative poverty we always bought organic when we had the option and used unprocessed food to prepare wholesome meals. While our friends saved money and effort at the supermarket we shopped at ‘Earth Foods’, our local wholefood store, spending more on nutrition than we could afford, and spending less on appearances and entertainment in order to fund our unconventional eating habits.

It was not until recently that it occurred to me that this calculated contamination of our food was more than merely an exercise in profit maximisation. It was always obvious that the authorities were not unaware of the disbenefits of chemicals in our food, especially as some additives banned as carcinogenic or behaviour modifying in the US were not only perfectly legal in the UK, but were almost ubiquitous here, especially in the sort of food that would be fed to children. In my innocence I put it down to human folly driven by capitalist greed, no more, no less.

I am a wiser man today, and I know now that there was more to it, something far more sinister than plain, mundane, run-of-the-mill avarice. The food processors, owned as they are by multinational business interests, were already involved in the conspirational programme of genocide-by-stealth that is currently being conducted against the native British peoples, the English, the Welsh, the Scots and the Irish. The multi-nationally owned food processors, the suppliers of ready meals, convenience food, breakfast cereals, soft drinks and almost everything found on the supermarket shelves actually WANTED to poison our children, to shorten their lives so as to facilitate more expeditiously the cleansing of our country of the indigenous population. The contamination of our food has been a deliberate act, chemical warfare under the radar. Poisonous chemicals are another weapon in the armoury of the Multiculturalists.

I expect that many will find this very hard to believe, and will consider me a bit of a fruitcake. To be scorned and derided for my beliefs and opinions is something I have learned to live with. As a long-time proponent of organic food, a campaigner for the countryside, the environment and animal rights and an opponent of Third World exploitation I have long since become inured to disagreement and to the disapproval of others, so many of whom would never miss the opportunity to overlook an injustice and who never fail to ignore an impending disaster until it is too late.
Those who laugh at me now, who dismiss my opinions as evidence of stupidity, will mostly be the same people who fed their children the carcinogens that will shorten their lives, the same people who stood by complacently while our global environment was decimated by multinational corporations, while our rainforests were eradicated and our oceans and our air contaminated with industrial pollutants, and while the Third World was denuded of its natural resources.

To those people I say…laugh now, while you may, for tomorrow you will be crying. It will give me no satisfaction to see the miseries of cancer, CJD, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, asthma, obesity, premature ageing and behavioural defects that are set to increasingly afflict our population. It will not make me happy to see others suffer, even if I have been the object of their derision and contumely. If the truth is ever known all I ever wanted was for people to have happy lives, enjoying the good things without abusing themselves or their planet. The hatred that I fight within myself is not for my critics, but for the abusers and the misinformants, for the greedy businessmen and the lying politicians, for those who conspire against our interests and our welfare, and all the other unprincipled, selfish evildoers who have so blighted our lives over the last 60 years.

Our politicians and opinion formers today make a great show of their concern about unhealthy food, as they do about the environment. Believe me, that’s all it is, JUST SHOW! They need you to believe they care, but they don’t care about anything but themselves and their own. Their children, you can be sure, have not been fed the same contaminated food and have not been brought up in the same polluted and deprived environments.

They are simply playing catch up because they are being found out. Their evildoings will soon be exposed so they are having to cover their tracks. Please, let’s not allow them fool us again! When disaster strikes, when the consequences of their heinous policies become manifest and the magnitude of their mendacity becomes evident, I fervently hope that we will have the moral courage to avenge ourselves upon them.

Many of these people, whose love of wealth and power has robbed them of all basic morality, will be dead by the time their misdeeds are brought to light. Though they may need to live forever Nature does not permit, and they are all eventually dragged unwilling into an uncontrollable future. Fabulously wealthy though they may be while still alive they have to leave it all behind them when they go. But, who gets it?

It greatly offends my sense of justice to think that these monsters could have that last compensating satisfaction of knowing their progeny will benefit from their evil deeds. I would rather their last thought was one of concerned anguish for the fate of their heirs who will be facing severe punishments for the wrongdoings of their parents.

Let them know their children will inherit, not their houses and their fortunes, but their guilt and their debt to society. Let them be sure that their descendents will pay that debt in full, and with interest! Let this be so even for the most despicable crimes, such as genocide and treason, and let it include even the most severe punishments.
