Listen carefully to the general who speaks first. He calls the atomic bomb a 'fairyland' project. Also, he seems very tense until he says the word 'fairyland', and then he seems to relax a bit.
Notice the deadpan, very scripted speach and actions of the people. There is a nightmarish, creepy quality to it.
These four crewmen, Tibbets, Pearson, Zirk and Ferebee, often made public appearances. The other crew members, except for the tail gunner, don't seem to be as public.
Also, these weren't the regular crew members. They replaced the regular crew members on the plane, which Tibbets called Enola Gay, to supposedly drop LIttle Boy on HIroshima, if they actually made it to Hiroshima.
The crew that dropped the 'dummy' Little Boy was the regular crew under the command of Lewis. As far as I can determine, none of these four were on the plane during that practice drop.
Another youtube, which I noticed on the same page as your video. About 2 1/2 minutes.
'Dutch van Kirk' the (supposed) navigator. At about 2 mins, quite near the end, he describes a jolt ('measured at' something like 3g) after about 45 seconds after the supposed bomb was supposedly dropped. After they were sure there'd be no more shocks, they looked round. The cloud was already higher than their altitude. So who took the film of the supposed mushroom cloud, far below? He doesn't say, and doesn't seem to have even thought about it.
He also doesn't say anything about the navigation; if your entire job was navigation, surely you'd say something about maps, radar, your elevation, what it's like in a B29, how you navigate at night, how good the voice contact was with the other crew, whether there was a jet stream maybe (I believe discovered subsequently) - just some little detail?
Another thing that might be interesting to check into in relation to the crew members, is that some crew members on a B-29 could see out, but some other members could not. That is to say; there was no window, or port. It seems that the members which Tibbets replaced for this Hiroshima bombing were the ones that could see out.
Reading another account about a bombing mission in Japan, written by the radio operator, he said that you could not see out of the radio room. On this particular mission, this radio operator said he couldn't see out, until the went through the hatch into the bomb bay area. He had some detail, to throw something out. Maybe propoganda leaflets; I don't remember. When he went into the bomb bay area, he could see down through the open bomb bay door.
I don't think the radio operator was one of the regular crew members to be replaced on the Enola Gay.
It would be telling if one of the crew members who couldn't see out were to describe seeing the blast, mushroom cloud, etc. Also, why wear goggles if you couldn't see out? I think Tibbets told all crew members to put on the goggles. (But Tibbets himself, and Ferebee, didn't.)
. The navigator sat, facing forward, in the space between the upper turret and the left side of the aircraft, his work table latched to the turret. The radio operator's position was at the very back of the front section, behind the turret and separated from the bomb bay by a bulkhead. To get in or out, he had to go through the navigator's station.
When you ask the experts how it is that an explosion at 1900 feet above the ground will make a mushroom cloud, the explanation is something like, "The heat causes a shock wave to go out, and then this creates a vacuum which sucks back in."
Well, then, after the shock wave hit the Enola Gay and accelerated it up 3.5 g, then why didn't the vacuum suck it back down? Why would the vacuum suck things up from the ground below, but not suck anything down from the sky above?
Very good point re shock waves. The black-and-white mock-up models are careful to show the dustcloud going in one direction, then reversing; it was obviously part of the specification for these films - they all do it. The reasoning must have been that there's a huge fireball miles across, mostly hot air; and this would then cool and pull in air. There must also have been the influence of firestorms - from the US viewpoint these would have been e.g. Tokyo, where the products of burning went up, and pulled in air (inc. oxygen), feeding the inferno. BUT if you have to fake a huge nuclear fireball on film, you have a problem, because no explosive is going to give a blast miles across. I suppose they thought nobody would notice.
NB I think it was you who pointed out that examination of the 'Hiroshima' cloud shows in fact it is two separate clouds, filmed from the point where, because of the perspective, one seemed on top of the other; it's clear there were two separate groundbased pillars of smoke, filmed to make them look continuous.
NB Worth mentioning for people new to this - there is no photo from Hiroshima FROM THE GROUND - i.e. fimed by a Japanese - despite the fact they had film equipment. As is shown by the films made starting a day or two after the bombing raid.
This is one of those where, in two scenes, I say they took a still photograph of a 'mushroom cloud', projected it onto a screen, and then filmed it with a movie camera while jerking the camera around to make it look like they were on an airplane being bounced around.
Wow never noticed that two pillars of smoke thing , it’s obvious once someone’s has pointed out , it bizarre because it doesn’t look like a big pillar of smoke even when it is clearly two of them , and looking at the video you posted I say fat man is as well less obviously so and the pillars are distinct in colour for some reason , but anyway well spotted.
FirstClass, I used my video editing software to look at that clip, and it is fairly clear the clouds do move, but not much. I don't think they move anywhere fast enough to be compatible with a vast explosion, though. I think it was probably a film of the aftermath of a couple of separate firebomb strikes in Japan. I don't know if they had image stabilisation in those days; I suppose there have been gimbals for compasses since at least 1600, and gyroscopes were well-known, so image stabilisation was clearly possible. The fact that the images wiggle surely proves that the film was an amateur thing, not a proper airforce record, unless it was designed to look like that, as you say. It's a pity Youtubers follow the media hacks, and don't usually bother with sources.
This is the one where they wheel out Little Boy and Fat Man from the building, and it just looks too easy, considering they weighed four or five tons each. Notice how white looking their legs and arms are. They don't look like they've been on a south Pacific island very long.
Also, the buildings don't look like quonset huts, which is the type of building that was on Tinian.
This video is a little jerky. There might be another better one someplace. There are several videos that excerpt Trinity and Beyond
Also notice the picture of Hiroshima at about :43, which shows it was mostly a shanty town. Not hard to burn down.
@ FirstClassSkeptic ---- at your video and comment above. Yes, that video clip is very bad. Both of the mushroom clouds look cut together, the pilot smiling and waving does not look like he has the demeanor of someone about to embark on this mission, and the fireball over Nagasaki looks very much like it is superimposed video. Yes, they wheeled Fat Man out much too easily, given the weight it was supposed to have. They look like they are delivering a refrigerator, but this bomb is supposed to have lots of very dense materials. I am surprised the official position is not that this footage is just a re-enactment.
Again, note the ominous music for the power of suggestion. Music controls people's emotion, and people do not really think with their judgment and what their eyes tell them is a fact, but with their emotions, and THEN their brains offer a rational commentary for the decisions of what should be accepted, or not, into the factual canon of one's memory. People delude themselves that their rational faculties are in control. I recommend muting the volume on the above video, and having another window open, where you play something like Lady Gaga's "Starstruck" It is really funny with that repeated lyric " Groove, SLAM, work it back...." because that "big bomb" was supposed to be like a "grandslam"
If it hasn't already been mentioned, here is another video and my own commentary
The above video is of the supposed Trinity test. What is really funny about a lot of these supposed nuke tests is the time of day they occur. It was exploded at 5:30 A.M., on July 16, 1945 ( also note that the fake Apollo 11 was launched on July 16, 1969 ). I was disappointed to see Phil Morrison, the producer of the beautiful educational video series "Ring of Truth" involved in this, because I thought he was a humanitarian. But note what he says : " the heat of the fireball would heat my face exactly as at sunrise !" So, I MUST give him credit for being 100 % honest ! Because THAT is EXACTLY what he was looking at --- the Sunrise ! Note that the Sun rises at EXACTLY 5:30 A.M. on July 16 ! Check it out ! And note that Phil Morrison did NOT say "blast" or "explosion" --- he was careful to say "fireball," which can truthfully describe the Sun, but not those other words. So yes, he WAS an eyewitness to a project of scientific observation ---- he witnessed the Sun coming over the horizon at exactly 5:30 A.M., with goggles on, and he felt the heat on his face.
"Ivy Mike" ALSO was supposedly exploded at very early in the morning, because the Sunrise was exactly what they were witnessing ! [I've seen other accounts of a supposed H bomb test many miles away, timed at sunrise - rerev added 21 Aug 2016]
I think they must have been worrying about some of these physicists having to take a lie detector test or something. They do not flinch or get uncomfortable in their recounting of the incident, like many of the Apollo astronauts do. Now, Edward Teller would have NO compunction about lying though his teeth, because he has no conscience and is a full blown sociopath, given what he has done. He is so repulsively ugly, with that disgusting, thick accent like Henry Kissinger, that one is so overwhelmed, he cannot even assess whether he looks like he is telling the truth or a lie ---- but his long nose gives him away !
Look at the Trinity explosion ---- note how they took a few still images, and interspersed them with video already in motion. And those images just look like a scoop of ice cream --- or one of those plastic displays of a scoop of ice cream. Note the contradiction with the dirt at the bottom of the "fireball" rushing AHEAD of the fireball itself. But this violates the principle of the Doppler effect, because the fireball, if there even IS one, would necessarily be rushing away and expanding FASTER than any dirt that is dragged along the ground. Indeed, that fireball should be faster than the speed of sound --- as a bullet coming out of rifle, as result of only a chemical explosion, is faster than the speed of sound.
Note that the SOUND of the blast is also in sync with the light from the blast. But this was supposed to have been witnessed from 6 miles away, so there should have been a delay of about 30 seconds between the blast, and the sound.
